The prickles must be worth it

Winter seems to be a challenging time for these Mulga Parrots to find some food. Having to climb up a very prickly bush (called the porcupine bush) to get some seeds is quite a desperate feat. Only the male attempted this while I was there. Usually they forage with their female partner as in the second image.
Photographed in Lake Hattah-Kulkyne National Park. The bird life in this park is gobsmacking. All sorts of unusual birds are seen in this park. It is a very dry region of Australia but for some reason the birds like it.
Tours to this region and Chiltern-Mt Pilot coming soon coming soon.
